The University of South Alabama received the 2011 Spirit of the Gulf Coast Award from the United Way of Southwest Alabama recently during the United Way’s Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon at Fort Whiting Armory.
The award is given annually to the United Way workplace campaign that demonstrates the highest standards of civic engagement and community-based philanthropy. During the past decade, USA employees have donated over $2.5 million in support of the United Way. USA had the largest workplace campaign in 2011. Moreover, USA employees have consistently participated in the annual Day of Caring, and the University supports the Loaned Executive Program.
