USA Faculty Staff Annual Fund Campaign Raises Record $1 Million

University of South Alabama employees for the first time topped the $1 million mark in gifts and matching funds to the Faculty Staff Annual Fund Campaign, the largest amount ever given in the 10-year history of the campaign.

The goal for the 2012 campaign, $575,156, was easily surpassed thanks to more than 120 leadership level gifts of $1,000 or more. In addition, several USA retirees made large gift contributions to help the Campaign reach its historic height, with a grand total of $1,038,417.

Some 67 percent of University employees participated, with 52 of the 204 departments achieving 100 percent giving participation.

“As the University of South Alabama looks forward to celebrating 50 years of service, the generosity of  our employees is a compelling testament to their commitment to making a difference in the lives of the people we serve through teaching, research, service and health care,” said USA President Gordon Moulton.

“During the past decade, the Faculty and Staff Campaign has grown stronger each year in terms of participation and the generosity of its donors, but the response of employees to this year’s campaign has astounded all of us,” said Dr. Joseph F. Busta, Jr., vice president for  development and alumni relations.

“This 2012 Faculty and Staff Campaign represents the first major fund-raising initiative conducted since the announcement of the University’s 50th Anniversary Campaign, which is focused on getting the maximum number of people involved in giving. To have the employees respond so overwhelming sends an incredibly positive message to alumni and friends about the soundness of investing time, energy, and personal resources here at USA.”

USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital Administrator Owen Bailey and Athletic Director Dr. Joel Erdmann served as co-chairs of the campaign, which has the theme “Celebrate! Commemorate! Participate!”

The theme signifies the University’s 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated throughout the 2012-13 academic year.

This campaign supports all aspects of the University, including students and student scholarships, faculty, equipment and facilities, health care, academic programs, research, athletics, and others.
