USA to Celebrate 50th Anniversary at Homecoming 2012

The University of South Alabama continues the year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary with Homecoming scheduled for Oct. 15-20.

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and surrounding communities are invited to attend USA Homecoming 2012 with the theme, “Our Time is Now,” featuring the Dedication of the Moulton Tower Murals and Walls of Honor Unveiling Ceremony to begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Moulton Tower and Alumni Plaza on the USA campus.

Dedication of the Moulton Tower Murals will feature the artwork of Jason Guynes, visual arts department chair and noted muralist. Guynes used an ancient art process to create the new murals. The four panels depict teaching, research, health care and outreach, and student life.

The Wall of Honor Unveiling Ceremony will recognize the new life time members of the USA National Alumni Association with names unveiled on the walls throughout the Alumni Plaza. The Walls of Honor also feature names of individuals who contributed to the betterment of USA throughout its history, including USA Presidents, Trustees, Student Government Association Presidents and USA National Alumni Association Presidents.

Other USA Homecoming events will include athletic and alumni activities, a pep rally, fireworks and a parade featuring the USA Jaguar Marching Band to begin on USA South Drive at 7 p.m., or immediately following the Dedication of the Moulton Tower Murals and Wall of Honor Unveiling Ceremony. USA Board Chair and early graduate, Jim Yance, Class of 1970 will serve as “grand marshal” of the parade.
