University of South Alabama mechanical engineering alumnus Quan Tran was recently awarded the Circle of Excellence Award from the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers. One engineering student in Alabama is selected annually for this award.
Tran is currently an Operations and Maintenance Engineer for ExxonMobil in Baton Rouge, La., but was raised in Theodore, Ala. While a student at USA, Tran was a leader in many college and university activities. He graduated first in his class in May 2012 with a perfect 4.0 GPA. As president of the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi he led the organization to a national award for an outstanding chapter. During his collegiate years, Tran mentored many students as a peer leader and resident assistant.
He initiated a recycling program on campus and participated in several research projects related to renewable energy and sustainability. Tran interned in Mobile for Hargrove Engineers and Constructors and for GE Energy in Tucson, Ariz.
