General Faculty Information

Fall 2010 Commencement, Saturday, December 18th at 2:00 p.m., Mitchell Center

Participation in Commencement
All full-time faculty members are requested to be present in academic regalia at commencement.

Robing
Please arrive at the Mitchell Center, Room 1102 no later than 1:15 p.m. on the day
of commencement. Robing will take place in Room 1102. Light refreshments will be available.


Parking
Parking is located in the lot between the Electrical Engineering Building and the Gamma Residence Halls. You must have your faculty parking hangtag in order to park in this lot.

Ceremony
Faculty and administrative personnel will line up in double file in the Mitchell Center, Room 1101. Faculty Marshals led by Dr. S. L. Varghese and Dr. Teresa Weldy will oversee the line up process.

Precisely at 1:40, the marshals will lead the faculty to the designated seating in the concourse area near the stage. Faculty will be in place prior to the student processional. You will be directed to your seats by the faculty marshals. Please remain standing for the student and platform party processional, Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and Invocation.

As degrees are being conferred, you will be asked to stand when your college is introduced.

Faculty will recess at the end of the ceremony at the same time as the platform party is recessing on the floor.

Bookstore representatives will be available in rooms 1101 and 1102 for return of rented academic regalia.

Please note that valuables should not be brought to the Mitchell Center since the robing area is not secure.

At the end of the ceremony, return your stoles to one of the lead marshals.

Chief Marshal Information

Fall 2010 Commencement

NOTE: Friday, December 17th, Registrar staff will be in the Arena from 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. if you would like to come over and rehearse.

Ceremony
• Obtain mace at 1:30 p.m. from Mitchell Center, Room 1613.

• Meet students at Northeast entrance of Mitchell Center Arena.

• Lead students into arena at precisely 2:00 p.m.

• Stand at bottom of center steps (stage right) until the platform party arrives.

• Follow platform party up center steps to stage. Go to Row 3 (at edge of stage) and place mace in stand, and be seated on Row 3.

• At the end of the ceremony, lead the platform party off the stage and down the center aisle exiting the arena out of the northwest portal.

• Return mace to Mitchell Center, Room 1613.

Ceremony
• Report to Mitchell Center, Room 1106 for distribution of gonfalons and line-up.

• Students will process to the Mitchell Center and arrive at the northeast door at approximately 1:55 p.m.

• As students process into the building, you are to merge into the lineup in front of the student carrying the sign for your college.

• NOTE: The order of entering the arena: Dr. Turrens with University Gonfalon; Lead Student Marshals (Dr. Rivizzigno and Dr. Daigle); students with College Gonfaloniers leading them.

• The following will line-up, assisted by a Registrar staff member, and enter the arena on the right side: Turrens, LeDoux, Jefferson, Robinson, Dardeau, Mosley, and Stefurak.

• The following will line-up, assisted by a Registrar staff member, and enter the arena on the left side: Sakla, Lauderdale, Langan, Wojciechowski, Farmer, and Thomas.

• University gonfalonier will follow the Chief Marshal to the bottom of the center steps of the stage (stage left) and remain there until the platform party is on-stage. Then you will place the gonfalon in base near the Registrar table and stand on stage side of gonfalon.

• All other gonfaloniers, after processing down the center aisle, exit the student seating area, place the gonfalon in the designated base along the side of the arena, and stand in place on the stage side of the gonfalon. There will be signs on the arena floor indicating where to stand.

• The following gonfaloniers will exit the student seating area to the right side: University, Medicine, Allied Health Professional Level, Nursing Professional Level, Arts and Sciences, Business, and Education.

• The following gonfaloniers will exit the student seating area to the left side: Engineering, Continuing Education, Computer Science, Allied Health, Nursing, and the Graduate School.

• You will remain in place for the platform party processional, Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and Invocation.

• When President Moulton directs everyone to be seated, you will be seated behind the student section on the arena floor.

• In the recessional, you will follow the platform party out of the arena and exit to the right out of the same door you entered. Note, the platform party will be exiting to the left.

• You will not recess with the gonfalons.

There will be a voluntary gonfalonier meeting on Friday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Center arena if you wish to practice.

Reader Information

Fall 2010 Commencement

Readers: Dr. Isabel Brown Graduates and Professional Level
  Mr. Robert Lowry Undergraduates

Readers’ Table Instructions
Dr. Brown and Mr. Lowry will be at the Readers’ table located in the HPE Building, West Gym no later than 12:30 p.m. Students will be instructed to check with you regarding name pronunciation.

• Work with the students to clarify pronunciation of names, but do not change.

• If there is a discrepancy, send the student to the Registrar’s table located in the East Gym of the HPE Building.

• Use only the pen provided by the Registrar’s office to make any notations on the card.

Ceremony
• The readers process into the arena as a part of the platform party.

• After the undergraduate degrees are conferred by the President, the readers will proceed to the chairs behind the podium stage left.

• Dr. Johnson and Dr. Franks will introduce the undergraduate colleges and their deans and the students will be directed to the stage.

• Dr. Johnson will introduce Mr. Lowry.

• The student will hand the name card to the Registrar’s staff member.

• The Registrar’s staff member will hand the card to the reader.

• Mr. Lowry will read the name, applicable honors and any 4.0 GPA.

• After reading, place the name card in the basket to the right of the podium.

• Read quickly but carefully through the names. The pace will depend on whether the student has received honors, the pace the student is crossing the stage and any special needs of the student. The Registrar’s staff member will help you to control the pace. Remember to read only the preprinted information from the card. Do not read any hand-written notes made by the students.

• Mr. Lowry will be seated between each college.

• Mr. Lowry will return to his seat behind the podium at the conclusion of the undergraduate colleges.

• After the conferring of the undergraduate degrees, Dr. Johnson will introduce the Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Brown as reader and the students will be directed to the stage.

• Prior to the first student of each college, the Registrar’s staff member will hand Dr. Brown a college card to read.

• The student will hand the name card to the Registrar’s staff member.

• The Registrar’s staff member will hand the card to the reader.

• Dr. Brown will read the name.

• After reading, place the name card in the basket to the right of the podium.

• Read quickly but carefully through the names. The pace will depend on the pace the student is crossing the stage, any special needs of the student, etc. The Registrar’s staff member will help you to control the pace. Remember to read only the preprinted information from the card. Do not read any hand-written notes made by the students.

• There will be no break between the graduate colleges.

• After the President confers the Doctor of Physical Therapy and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees, Dr. Franks will present the Dean and direct the students to the stage. Dr. Brown will return to the podium to read the names.

• The student will hand the name card to the Registrar’s staff member.

• The Registrar’s staff member will hand the card to the reader

• Dr. Brown will read the name.

• After reading, place the name card in the basket to the right of the podium.

• Read quickly but carefully through the names. The pace will depend on the pace the student is crossing the stage, any special needs of the student, etc. The Registrar’s staff member will help you to control the pace. Remember to read only the preprinted information from the card. Do not read any hand-written notes made by the students.

• At the conclusion of the DNP students, Dr. Brown will be seated behind the podium.

• After the conferring of the Ph.D. degrees, Dr. Johnson reads the names as the students cross the stage and are hooded.

• After the conferring of the Ph.D. degrees, the readers return to their seats with the Platform Party.

• The readers recess with the Platform Party.

There will be a voluntary Readers meeting on Friday, December 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Center arena if you wish to practice.
