OLD BUSINESS: N/A

NEW BUSINESS:

Motion: Open floor for discussion of USA Sailing Club

Sponsor: Ramsey

Stating: The group is requesting money through a Supplemental Travel Grant in order to attend a sailing competition in Connecticut. Because money must go towards conferences or academics, a rule suspension is required. The USA Sailing Club already received $1,000 through appropriations, but the majority of it went into boat repairs and maintenance.

Motion: Suspend Rule H of the Supplemental Travel Grant

Sponsor: Ramsey

 *motion was not seconded

STUDENT FORUM:

Dean Mitchell discussed the decision made by the Senate regarding the USA Off-Road Club. He stated that a Senator’s duty is to appropriate money in accordance with the rules of both the University and the state. The main argument with the Off-Road Team is that the vehicles aren’t university property and cannot be stored on campus. Dean Mitchell stated that, if the Senate had chosen to give the club money, he would have had a difficult time supporting their decision. Because he must sign and approve where the SGA’s money goes, he would be liable for any accidents or injuries that occurred as a result. So although it was a much-debated topic, the Senate probably made the right choice.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Perry asked students to participate in the Kappa Delta Shamrock events from October 23-24th. There will be a pancake supper, a 5k and 1 mile fun run, and bingo. The proceeds go towards the Penelope House.

Senator Guy invited students to attend Chi Omega’s Songfest on October 9th at 7:00 PM. There will also be a silent auction before the show and a cookout on Wednesday. All money raised goes to Chi Omega’s philanthropy, the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Youngblood invited all Senators and Officers to Buffalo Wild Wings on Thursday at 9:00 PM.

Sells informed everyone that Friday is TWLOHA Day (To Write Love on Her Arms). Come to the Student Center and have “love” written on your arms.
