Building Information

Quick Facts:

  1. Construction began in September 2009, and completion is expected by spring 2012. Classes will be held in the new building by the summer 2012 semester.
  2. The 155,000 square foot state of the art facility was made possible with the help of Senator Richard Shelby. The necessary federal funding was appropriated for the building thanks to his efforts and strong belief in meeting this regional need
  3. Shelby Hall will house both the School of Computing and the College of Engineering. Their joint occupancy facilitates synergy and provides state of the area resources for these two technology-oriented academic units.
  4. Shelby Hall will feature an outdoor fountain and an outdoor gathering area for students, alumni, faculty/staff and friends of USA to enjoy.
  5. This state of the art facility has 63 laboratories, 17 classrooms, 3 large multimedia auditorium classrooms, 5 computer labs, 5 student study areas, 7 student design rooms, offices for faculty and staff in each discipline, and much more.
  6. There are Room Naming opportunities within Shelby Hall. Choose a room or area to name, and your name (or the name of your choosing) will be inscribed on a special donor recognition and appreciation plaque that will be placed outside the area so named to recognize your investment in USA’s students. In addition, your name will be inscribed on a plaque for the Shelby Hall Honor Wall of Donors, located in the atrium of the building.
  7. Room naming opportunities are available from $5000 - $500,000 and pledges are accepted for up to five years. Donations will be used to support the respective areas’ Excellence Fund, created to allow current and future Deans to direct funding to areas where the need is greatest. For additional information on room naming opportunities, click here.
  8. The University will provide a 50% gift credit match (for gifts to name a room). For example, if a donor gives $25,000 to name a classroom, the donor will receive an additional $12,500 in donor recognition, making the donor’s total recognition credit $37,500 (on the Donor Wall within Shelby Hall, and in the annual Honor Roll of Donors publication).
  9. The University of South Alabama strives to recognize and honor the important role donors play in advancing the teaching, research and service missions of the university; therefore, we have created Donor Society Levels. To see a list of categories, click here.
