Dr. Sandeep R Shah
Dr. Shah is currently the Deputy
Branch Chief of the Metals Engineering
Branch at NASA Marshall Space
Flight Center.
The branch activities cover manned space flight launch vehicle (Space
Shuttle,
Crew Launch Vehicle, X33) support in the areas of Materials,
Processing, and
Manufacturing. The branch has 42 civil service employees and 12
contractor
employees. Prior to this he was the team lead of the Diagnostics and
Failure
Analysis team which was responsible in providing analytical services to
various
programs (External Tank, Solid Rocket Booster, Reusable Solid Rocket
Motor,
Space Shuttle Manin Engine, Orbiter, Space Station, In Space Resource
Utilization, X-programs) on site. He also managed a $10M
state-of-the-art
diagnostics facility.
Prior to joining NASA Dr. Shah
worked as principal engineer for Lockheed
Martin Manned Space Systems in the development of Super Light Weight
Shuttle
External Tank. Dr. Shah has a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt
University, has
authored and
co-authored several publications, and has been invited to give several
talks.
He is the recipient of several awards including NASA Research and
Technology
Award, NASA Space Act Award, and Manned Space Flight Launch Honoree. He
holds
one patent.
