I. Concept- Read Aloud: A Plump and Perky Turkey
II. Behavioral Objectives: 1. Recognize elements in a story. 2. Students will use pictures and text to gain meaning from written material. 3. Students will listen to the story for enjoyment and participate in discussion about the story.
4. Students will recognize the Internet can be used as a resource for reading and information on authors and illustrators.

IV. Materials: The book A Plump and Perky Turkey and my laptop to show the students the Click and Read.com website with an interactive game about the book.
V. Teaching/Learning Procedures:
A. Motivation: We will look at the pictures on the cover of the book to make predictions about the story. I will ask them if they have ever seen a live turkey and why turkey’s are special this time of year.
B. Instructional Procedures:
v Instruction will take place on the carpet in a whole group.
v The teacher will show the students the cover page and the title page to identify the author and illustrator.
v The teacher will tell the students to listen to see what the people in the town did to find a Thanksgiving turkey.
v The teacher will read the story and stop to ask questions to monitor comprehension.
v I will ask “What problem was the town having?”
v Who thought of a solution to the problem?
v What did the people decide to do to solve the problem?
v Where did they put some posters?
v What did the sign say?
v Why did Pete apply for the job?
v What were some of the things that were used to make turkeys?
v What did the note from Pete day?
v What did Pete take with him?
v What did the people in Squawk Valley eat for Thanksgiving Day?
v What did Pete do on Thanksgiving Day?
v I will show them the website for the book and an interactive game and word search.
v We will talk about using the Internet for resources.
C.
Closure: The students are asked if it is ok to have a
Thanksgiving Day without turkey.
VI. Evaluation: The students are observed for reading and comprehension. They will also do a word search activity for word recognition.
