Assessments

Assessments are tools that help teachers.  Assessments give you insight into progresses students are making; they also give you insight into problems that students are having. There are many different types of assessments that classroom teachers can use.  One of my favorite ways of assessing a students understanding of the material covered is to use a Venn diagram.  Using these types of diagrams, you can tell at a glance which students grasped the material and which students did not.

After hearing the story Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, the students completed the Venn diagram to the left.  This Venn compared the city of Mobile to the fictitious town of Chewandswallow.

This picture shows me reviewing the Venn diagram with the class.  The way that I review the diagram is by reading each statement to the class and then checking with the class to see if everyone agrees.  After reading all statements, I check to see if anyone can think of anything else that we may have missed.
