Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that every child has the ability to learn. It is the job of an educator to teach them anything and everything possible in the short amount of time that they are there. As a teacher, I want to show my students the world and help them to explore every avenue of learning available to them. I want to help them become everything they are capable of being. It is not only my duty to the parents and children whom I will teach; it is also my duty to myself and to society. If I do not educate my children to the best of my ability, I will have failed the children and myself.

I believe it is important that children learn in the environment that best suits their learning styles because each of them will learn better in different settings. I want to explore all of these settings so that each child can tap into their ability to learn something and learn it well. My curriculum will contain everything that the state requires, however I will find creative and explorative ways to teach the material. I believe in doing so, children will learn more than just factual information. They will learn to think critically, examine the evidence before them, and draw conclusions and make informed decisions based on the information presented.

In order to be the most effective teacher I can be, I must first love the profession that I have chosen, and I must love each and every child that I teach. Race and ethnicity are not determining factors in the fate of a child’s education, and I believe that every child can learn if a teacher is willing to give them a chance. As a teacher, I will make sure that my children have every chance possible.

Education is not the type of degree that ends when you are issued a diploma. I believe that in order to be the most effective teacher possible, I must continue to pursue my own education. I believe that professional development is a major component of what makes a teacher great. If teachers are not willing to further their own education, how can they expect their students to do the same? It is also extremely important to pursue further educational opportunities due to the constant state of change in the field of education. Education is not a stagnant field. It is continuously evolving, with new practices, procedures, and ideas being produced everyday. In order to provide my children with the highest level of education possible, I must do my part in keeping up with changing practices.

I don’t look at teaching as a job or even a profession. Teaching is what I was born to do. I knew as a child that teaching was the profession that I would one day pursue, and I am proud to say that I have never wavered in my decision. I am passionate about what I have chosen to do with my life, and I hope that my passion for teaching will translate into a passion for learning in the children that I will one day teach.
