Today, international travel for both business and pleasure is more common than any other time in history. You may be planning your dream vacation - a safari to Africa, or maybe a successful company trip to the Far East. A travel health plan is key to your safe and health travels and an integral part of all your adventures abroad.

At the University of South Alabama Travelers' Health Center, our goal is to work with you on an individual basis to make your travels as safe and healthy as possible. Our physicians have experience and training in the prevention and treatment of overseas illnesses, and completely understand the health risk travelers face.

All of the physicians affiliated with the USA Travelers' Health Center are specialists in the field of Infectious Diseases and are members of the USA College of Medicine Faculty.

Travel Alert for Airline Passengers with Medical Conditions

In response to the September 11 tragedy, the Federal Aviation Administration has implemented increased security in all airports. One such security measure will impact passengers who have diabetes and use hypodermic syringes, lancets, and testing equipment.

As part of your pre-travel planning, the USA Travelers' Health Center is recommending that all passengers with diabetes (or patients with any condition requiring medical supplies and equipment) obtain a letter from their physician stating the medical need to carry these devices before traveling.  The Center is also recommending that you have copies of prescriptions of all medication you are currently taking.

If you have any questions about this recommendation, feel free to contact us at 251-660-5872.

For couples who are adopting children overseas, the USA Travelers' Health Center provides pre-adoption consultations for parents-to-be on the specific health concerns and preventative health requirements. Upon arrival in the United States, our Center also provides medical evaluations and all necessary immunizations for children who are entering the U.S. to live with their new family.

This service for families adopting children overseas is unavailable anywhere else in our region.

In addition, the USA Travelers' Health Center provides travelers with accurate and timely information about government regulations and the necessary preventive measures for a healthy trip.

We accept all major insurance providers, although many do not cover the modest cost of immunizations and the professional help we provide you to help ensure healthy travel. If you are unsure about your coverage, feel free to contact us. We accept VISA, MasterCard, or a personal check at the time of the visit.
