Frequently Asked Questions about Photocopying & TRACcards
- How do you use TRACcards?
- Insert TRACcard into reader (arrow side facing reader unit, name side up). Wait for the card to stop moving. Once you complete your copying or printing press the green arrow button to retrieve the card.
- How much are copies?
- $.10 per exposure for letter or legal size paper.
- Can I get my money back for bad copies?
- The circulation desk will add value for bad copies to patron’s TRACcard.
- Do the copiers make double sided copies?
- No.
- Can the paper be set on top and fed through?
- No. This is to prevent mis-feeds and jams from crumpled/torn paper or from staples and clips.
- Can I make transparencies?
- No. You need to make a copy of the needed page then take it to Duplicating, Kinkos, etc. to make a transparency. Transparencies can jam the machine.
- Can I use the card on microform printers?
- Not at this time. There is a change machine near the microform readers, or you can use the new microform scanners to save to a CD or flash drive for no charge.
- I do not need this much money on my card; can I have a refund?
- Adding value to a card is the patron’s decision. The card is the property of the purchaser. The Library does not return any cash from cards.
- I only have to make one copy, what do I do?
- The suggested minimum purchase is $1.00. This will buy the card and give 5 copies.
- Can I use the card at other libraries?
- No. The Biomedical Library, USA Archives, USA Baldwin County Library, and the University Library keep separate financial accounts. It is not possible to have one card for all libraries.
- Why do you charge for the card?
- The $.50 charge is to recover part of the cost of the cards to the library.
- Can the value on the card be erased if placed next to magnetic stuff?
- This is unlikely; still, avoid magnetic fields.
- My card somehow got cleared; can I have my money back?
- Proper care of the card is the patron’s responsibility. The Library cannot refund or reprogram damaged cards.
- Can departments set up an account and use the staff machine?
- No. It is necessary to restrict staff copiers for the library. Departments will be able to purchase cards for departmental use.
- What happens if I leave my card in a machine?
- Go to the Circulation/Reserve Desk. Patrons will be instructed to print their name on the card at purchase. Cards left in machines are usually turned in. Circulation/Reserve Desk will keep these with other Lost & Found items.
- Where do I go with complaints?
- Circulation/Reserves Desk. Many issues can be resolved quickly.
