Mitchell College of Business Library
Group Study Rooms (111-115) Reservation Guidelines
The Mitchell College of Business Library offers a congenial place to study, undertake research and collaborate on group projects. Five group study rooms are available for groups of 2-6 people to study, discuss, and conduct research for teamwork and group projects.
Each of the five group study rooms are equipped with dry erase boards. Dry erase markers and an eraser may be requested at the Service Desk. A fully networked wireless facilitates the use of laptop computers to access library databases and campus network resources. The rooms have a network connection and several electrical outlets.
Students, who are currently enrolled in business courses, as well as faculty and staff who are affiliated with the Mitchell College of Business may reserve group study rooms on a first-come, first-serve basis up to one week in advance at the MCOB Library Service Desk or by phone @ 251-414-8067. Walk-in reservations will be accepted based on room availability. Current day phone reservations will be made on a case-by-case basis depending on room demand for that day.
Note: Business College administration reserves the right to override/cancel previous reservations as needed to schedule the group study rooms for job interviews or other administrative purposes. If reservations are cancelled, users will be notified as soon as possible.
- Unless the rooms have been reserved, all five rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Group study rooms may only be reserved for groups of 2-6.
- Individuals who are registered with Special Student Services (Student Center 270, 460-7212) and require the use of a group study room for individual use may reserve group study rooms after providing a certification of disability letter for the library to keep on file.
- Customers may be asked to supply a University of South Alabama ID Card or J Number in order to make reservations.
- Group study rooms may be reserved for up to a 3-hour block "per group" with no renewals.
- Individuals reserving a group study room have 15 minutes following the reserved time to occupy the room. If the room remains unoccupied, the library may re-assign the room after this time.
- Group study rooms are not sound-proof and groups are asked to keep conversations to a normal conversational level. Cell-phones and other multimedia should be muted or head phones should be used.
- Library staff reserves the right to enter group study rooms at any time and to remove users from group study rooms based on inappropriate conduct, including policies outlined in the Lowdown @ http://www.southalabama.edu/lowdown/08-09/contents0809.pdf
- The individual making the reservation assumes responsibility for the condition of the room and the conduct of group participants. Eating, smoking, and disruptive behavior are prohibited. Any damage should be reported immediately to the Service Desk.
- If the room is vacated for more than 15 minutes, library staff reserves the right to remove belongings and reassign the room.
- The library cannot be held responsible for unattended belongings.
- Library materials or personal belongings should not be left in the room. Any belongings left unattended in a group study room and reported will be removed and held at the Service Desk for up to 30 days.
Note: Failure to follow library policies/guidelines may result in the loss of group study room privileges.
