| An examination of the sentence and paragraph. Students will review basic grammar, engage in structural analysis of the sentence, examine various techniques to achieve coherence at the paragraph level, and ultimately demonstrate these skills in writing (ranging from shorter assignments to the essay). The course emphasizes grammatical competence, sentence style, and paragraph development. |

study of the topics from prealgebra and basic algebra skills
including operations with whole numbers, fractions,
and decimals; ratio and proportion, percent, and
measurement; introduction to exponents, language
of algebra, signed numbers, absolute value, order
of operations, linear equations and inequalities,
graphs and statistics.
Required labs. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on the Math Placement Exam. |

| This course combines topics in pre and elementary algebra including operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, exponents, signed numbers, order of operations; ratio and proportion; measurement; functions; solving and graphing linear and quadratic equations and inequalities; operations with polynomials, and factoring polynomials. Requires 5 hours of in-class work and 1 hour of lab work. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on the Math Placement Exam. |

trigonometry and geometry course for students
who need this preparation for MA 113 or 115. Topics
include lines and angles, polygons, triangles,
circles, solids, and composite figures, the six
trigonometric functions, right triangle trigonometry,
radian measure, graphing and inverse functions,
identities, equations, complex numbers and polar
coordinators, and logarithms. Required computer
lab. Prerequisite: High School Algebra or successful
completion of DS 082 or 083 and permission of
Developmental Studies Academic Advisor. |

| This course includes using set, interval, roster and scientific notation; solving and graphing: equations and inequalities, compound inequalities and absolute value equations, functions (linear and non linear), systems of linear equations and inequalities, quadratic equations (factoring, completing the square and quadratic formula), rational equations, radical equations, exponential and logarithmic equations; operations on: functions (composition, inverse), rational exponents (changing rational exponents to radicals and vice versa), polynomials, rational expressions, complex fractions, radical expressions, complex numbers; and using formulas and problem solving. Requires 5 hours of in-class work and 1 hour of lab work. Prerequisite: Appropriate score on the Math Placement Exam or successful completion of DS 082. Fee. |
