BASIC ELECTRONIC FETAL MONITORING
 

This course is designed to provide the antepartum and intrapartum nurse with a theoretical foundation of electronic fetal monitoring. Course topics include physiology, pathophysiology, fetal tracing interpretation, nursing interventions, and legal issues.

BREASTFEEDING - HELPING MOTHERS SUCCEED
 

This course is designed for the licensed nurse who provides breastfeeding help for mothers pre-natally, during their hospital stay and beyond. Topics include current breastfeeding research, prenatal preparation, positioning, management of sore nipples, use of the breast pump, helping the mother of a preterm or sick infant, and other helpful subjects.

CLINICAL ISSUES IN MATERNAL - INFANT CARE
 
This course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skill of the nurse caring for women in the high- risk antenatal setting, and the nurse delivering couplet care to mothers and newborns. Topics include preterm labor, antenatal testing, domestic violence, newborn infections, pre-eclampsia, maternal substance abuse, fetal effects of maternal disease.

COMPLEX ISSUES IN PEDIATRIC NURSING
 
This course is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the nurse caring for the complex pediatric patient. Topics include: physical assessment, growth and development, infectious disease, recognizing and reporting child abuse, psychosocial needs, respiratory distress, diabetes, neurological disorders, pediatric oncology, CVL care, grief etc. Hands on skills provided. Participants may attend all four days one or more days.

COPING WITH STRESS IN THE WORK PLACE

HIGH RISK/CRITICAL CARE OBSTETRICS CORE CURRICULUM
 
This six-day course is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the experienced intrapartum nurse involved in the care of the high-risk obstetric patient. Course topics include advance anatomy and physiology, hemodynamic monitoring, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, ABG interpretation, pharmacology, and psychosocial, legal, and ethical issues. Class participation includes competency validation and skills station, required reading and a post test. Participation is limited to Registered Nurses with at least two years experience in Labor and Delivery or High-Risk Obstetrics.

LEADERSHIP: DEVELOPING THE SKILLS
 
This two-part course is designed to provide departmental supervisors and charge nurses with tools to become more effective leaders in the workplace. Topics include critical thinking, effective communication techniques, personality traits and influences, problem-solving, time management, delegation, and stress management. In the Part II class, participants will apply previously learned concepts during groups activities. USACWH employees attendance must be arranged through their department head or nurse manager. Participants must attend both Parts I and II.
