NEONATAL CRITICAL
CARE COURSE

This course is designed to enhance
the skills and knowledge of the neonatal intensive
care nursery nurse involved in the daily care of neonates
(Several days have been developed with the newborn
nursery nurse in mind). Course topics include newborn
physical assessment, neonatal infection, pharmacology,
dysmorphic infant assessment, parental support, system
disorders and nursing management, fluid and electrolytes,
bereavement, blood gas interpretation, emergency neonatal
stabilization, ethical issuess, effects of substance
abuse, etc. Entire course is six days long, two days
per week for three weeks. Participants may attend
all six days or one or more days.

SCRUB

(SURGICAL SCRUB IN THE OBSTETRIC SETTING)

This all-day course is designed to
provide the obstetrical nurse and scrub tech with
the principles of aseptic technique and prepare them
to scrub on operative obstetrical procedures. Discussion
will include the roles and responsabilities of the
obstetrical surgical nurse/tech, principles of aseptic-sterile
technique, instrument identification, suture types,
and layers of the pelvic cavity. Scrubbing, gowning,
gloving and other principles will be practiced by
each participant in a clinical skills lab.
