A thunderstorm had come up
suddenly, chasing the Brouckaert family and their friends
from the pool into the house. As the adults were drying
off the children, someone noticed that 2-year-old Sarah
Brouckaert was missing. A search began and she was quickly
found face down in the swimming pool.
Sarah
had no heartbeat and she wasn't breathing. A family friend,
who happens to be a physician, gave Sarah CPR as she was
rushed to the nearest hospital by her father. She was stabilized
and transferred to USA Children's and Women's Hospital,
where she arrived in critical condition with symptoms of
severe neurological damage. Sarah was put on a ventilator,
given drugs to control her seizures, and monitored around
the clock in pediatric intensive care. After several days
in a coma, Sarah awoke. Surprising everyone -including her
mother, an ER doctor- Sarah was up and about in a matter
of days, happily playing in the hospital's playroom.
Confounding
all the odds, this little fighter not only survived the
accident but escaped permanet injury as well. She is, without
a doubt, a walking miracle.
