Infant Toddler Unit
The Infant Toddler Unit is a 28 bed
unit on the 5th floor of USA Children's and Women's Hospital. It
is staffed with specially trained nurses dedicated to providing
quality, family-centered care to children ages 0-5 months. Many
families and patients often find that the atmosphere of the department
promotes unity, love and understanding in meeting the needs of the
patients. Lasting relationships are often formed with the patients
and their families.
The unit offers the following unique opportunities
for patients and their families during their hospital stay:
| |
- In-room VCR's to meet the
additional emotional needs of the child. Favorite videos
can be brought from home or obtained from our child life
department.
- Pediatric PICC line team
which can facilitate home return for patients requiring
long term IV antibiotics. The length of hospitalization
is decreased and the patient and family are provided a quicker
return to normal family routine.
- Personal unit educator who
can provide one-on-one teaching to patients and families.
- Video seizure monitoring.
- Child safety and injury prevention
classes.
- Child life program.
- Pet therapy program.
- Private sleeping arrangements
in each room for parents.
- A highly trained nursing
staff.
- Family-centered care.
- Starbright
Computer System which allows children in hospitals throughout
the USA and Canada to communicate with other children.
- TreeHouse,
a pediatric playroom, which provides a "safe place"
where no medical procedures can be performed.
