One in six couples or more than 6 million American couples have trouble becoming pregnant. Among those who pursue treatment, nearly 65 percent are able to have children. Most are treated with conventional therapies including drug treatments or surgical repair procedures.
What is Infertility?
Infertility is both a common and treatable condition with physical and emotional symptoms. Incidence increases with age. Doctors usually seek a specialist, like those at USA, for patients under 35 who have been trying to conceive for 12 months. For those over 35, the critical time frame is reduced to six months.
Infertility affects both men and women.
Approximately 40 percent of cases are found in women and 40 percent in men.
Dr. Peter Rizk in the lab
A combined infertility problem between man and woman accounts for 10 percent, and the remaining 10 is attributed to unknown causes.
• These statistics make it critical for both partners to be evaluated simultaneously. This saves valuable time and helps doctors move quickly to treatment options.
