Welcome to the University of South Alabama Internal Medicine Residency Program website. I have been the Program Director here since 2003. While the time has passed quickly, it has been a rewarding and fun-filled time. Our program’s emphasis is on providing a wonderful education and an excellent clinical experience. We emphasize learning, teaching, and caring. Everyone here feels like they are part of one big happy family. I know every houseofficer very well and our residents get the chance to work alongside experienced clinicians and educators who will have a lasting effect on their professional careers.
At our program, our residents take care of a very broad array of illnesses. As a result of this diversity our residents gain experience in taking care of the very sick as well as learning to practice prudent preventive medicine. Resident education takes place in a friendly atmosphere alongside helpful, experienced faculty whose priority is teaching and patient care. You will gain experience in both inpatient and outpatient medicine. You can go anywhere and do anything, be it hospitalist, generalist in an ambulatory setting, or as a future subspecialist. The training you receive here allows you to do anything you wish.
Mobile is a city of approximately 270,000 and is located in the middle of the Gulf Coast. Our port is thriving, business is booming, and our economic future is very bright. New industries such as ThyssenKrupp Steel and Northrop Grumman are scheduled to come to this area. Outdoor activities occur twelve months a year and the beaches are just one hour away. Fishing, golfing, Mardi Gras, fresh seafood, Senior Bowl, undergraduate activities and a world-class symphony are just some of the attractions of our port city.
Yet, it is the people of this institution that makes this place great. The faculty are supportive and your fellow residents will always help you out. You will develop educational traits and personal relationships that will last a lifetime. I hope you join our family.
