General Information

The Ob/Gyn residency program at the University of South Alabama is a fully accredited 4 year residency providing training in the full spectrum of the specialty. The stand alone program is based in the Children's and Women's Hospital (USAC&W) which is part of a larger integrated system consisting of 2 acute care facilities (one is the regional trauma center, the other a general hospital) in addition to a long term care facility. In addition, residents participate in surgical cases with private practice physicians at 3 affiliated hospitals.

The residency has 4 residents at each level, The faculty consists of 10 full-time attendings, and 2 part time attendings, as well as private clinical physicians. There are also several clinical faculty and private attendings both at USA and the community hospitals.

Residents obtain a broad primary care experience through a clinic set-up to emulate a private practice model. Patients are followed in the same resident's continuity clinic throughout their residency to allow for the development of a long term patient-physician relationship and continuity of care.
