Ob-Gyn Residents receive competitive training in a unique setting, allowing maximum exposure to procedures and patient care.

The University of South Alabama's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program is dedicated to the education and training of resident physicians. Our program is clinically oriented and the majority of our residents enter private practice after graduation. Patient care, grand rounds, and didactic presentations result in well-trained specialists. Participation in research and teaching experience prepare those who are interested in subspecialty training and academic medicine. The low resident/faculty ratio results in close contact with faculty members who provide both clinical supervision and academic guidance. Residents do not compete with Fellows so that training of the resident is our only goal.

The Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) compiles an extensive standardized data base of participating residency programs. You may view our data base which includes a description of the residency, residents, faculty, hospitals and resident selection but the site requires a password. To view data of other residency programs you may obtain a free password from the Chairman's office in Obstetrics and Gynecology or the office of the Dean.

We encourage you to compare these statistics with those of other Residency programs. Careful comparisons show that this program provides experience to the resident that might be thought to be found only in larger programs.

You may learn more about the program by reading the resident manuals. The OB/GYN handbook and the resident handbook for the institution give you the flavor of how residents work here. Statistics are important but the numbers are complemented by these other sources.

Residency is not all work. Mobile is a wonderful place to live with many cultural and recreational opportunities. In addition to the offerings of the University of South Alabama, learn more about the city and the Gulf Coast.
