USA Hospitals Take Honors at March of Dimes WalkAmerica
|
CUSA Hospitals took top honors at this year’s March of Dimes WalkAmerica held April 24, at Municipal Park, helping the March of Dimes raise money and awareness to combat the problem of premature birth, the leading cause of neonatal death in the U.S. and Alabama. USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital was the corporate sponsor for the Walk with employees from all three hospitals taking part in the fun and fundraising.
Babies born prematurely with low birth weight often die within the first month of life, or can have serious lifelong health problems like mental retardation, blindness, chronic lung disease and cerebral palsy. Most of these infants spend their first weeks of life in the Hollis J. Wiseman Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital.
The team from USA Hospitals was recognized as the largest Walk team, second overall in fundraising and a member of the $2000 plus club.
