USA Knollwood Hospital’s Blood Bank and Clinical Laboratory have recently earned national accreditation from their respective agencies.
The USA Knollwood clinical laboratory has been accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists based on the results of a recent on-site inspection. The laboratory was cited by CAP for “excellence of the services being provided.” The CAP accreditation program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the staff’s qualifications, the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for the laboratory’s patients.
The USA Knollwood Blood Bank was granted accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks. AABB accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained AABB assessors and establishes that the level of medical, technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by AABB.
AABB accreditation procedures are voluntary. USA Knollwood’s Blood Bank sought AABB accreditation because the program assists facilities around the country in achieving excellence by promoting a level of professional and medical expertise that contributes to quality performance. |
