University of South Alabama Regional Transplant Center and the Alabama Kidney Foundation will present the 2004 Kidney Patient Education Conference, Sunday, September 19, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Mobile Marriott Hotel, 3101 Airport Blvd. The conference will offer a variety of educational programs for kidney dialysis patients, transplant recipients, family members and nephrology health professionals.
Keynote speaker for the event is Reg Green, father of Nicholas Green, a seven-year-old California boy who was shot in Italy during a botched robbery in 1994. The decision of the Greens to donate their son’s organs and corneas, led to a worldwide increase in awareness of the shortage of donors. A made-for-television movie, “Nicholas’ Gift,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Alan Bates, was made of their story.
Registration is free to patients and one guest, but reservations must be made by September 15. For more information, contact the USA Regional Transplant Center at (251) 471-7391 or toll free (877) 421-5704, or the Alabama Kidney Foundation at (800) 750-3331.
