Noted Trauma Surgeon to Deliver First Lecture Memorializing Life of Mobilian William A. L. Mitchell

 
Dr. J. David Richardson will deliver the first William A. L. Mitchell Memorial Lecture on Nov. 1, 2007 at 6 p.m. in the John Counts Room at the University of South Alabama Mitchell Center.
This lecture was established to honor the life of Mitchell, who died in 2005 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident during his senior year at UMS-Wright Preparatory School.
Richardson’s lecture, is entitled "Changing Patterns in the Management of Injuries to the Liver and Spleen." This talk will detail the evolution of trends in the treatment of these solid organ injuries and outline changes in mortality that have occurred as a result of these changes.
Richardson, who serves as director for the Emergency Surgical Services at the University of Louisville Hospital, is a nationally-known trauma surgeon. He is professor and vice chair of the department of surgery at the University of Louisville. Richardson also serves as editor for The American Surgeon, a professional journal for surgical specialists.
While in Mobile, Dr. Richardson will also host a Grand Rounds with residents and students of the USA Medical School College of Medicine on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 6:00 a.m. at the USA Medical Center Trauma Unit.
