USA College of Medicine Welcomes New Associate Professor
| Dr. Joseph Brewer, an investigator in B cell biology, joins the USA Department of Microbiology and Immunology. |
| |
The University of South Alabama College of Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Joseph Brewer, associate professor in the department of microbiology and immunology.
Prior to joining USA, Brewer was a member of the molecular biology program and an associate professor with the department of microbiology and immunology at Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago.
| |
Brewer earned his undergraduate degree in molecular biology from Auburn University and completed his doctoral studies with the department of immunology at Duke University. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the department of tumor cell biology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
| |
| Brewer’s special interests include immunology and cell biology, with a focus on B cells and how B cells make antibodies. |
| |
| “My research investigates a new area of B cell biology which has developed in the last decade. There is a tremendous interest and need to understand how B cells work due to the ongoing health problems of autoimmune diseases and B cell malignancies like multiple myeloma. I’m excited about the opportunity to build something new in this department,” said Brewer. |
| |
| Brewer’s current research is funded through a grant from NIH and is titled “Homeostasis of the ER in Differentiating B Cells.” |
