July Med School Café: “Tales of Sleep Medicine: DJ’s, Nuclear Disasters,
and Obese Presidents (and maybe you)”
|
|
| The Med School Café for July will feature Dr. William A. Broughton, professor of internal medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Broughton is board-certified in Sleep Medicine and has served as Medical Director for the Infirmary West Sleep Center since 1991. |
|
| His lecture, entitled “Tales of Sleep Medicine: DJ's, Nuclear Disasters, Obese Presidents (and maybe you),” will take place on July 24, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. at The Museum of Mobile located at 111 South Royal Street. |
| |
| The lecture will provide an overview of sleep medicine including: the development and study of sleep medicine, the biologic patterns of sleep and their relation to your life, and the latest data on the nature and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. The discussion will also cover treatment options for other sleep disorders and practical advice for solving your own sleep-related problems. |
| |
| According to Broughton, more than 70 million people in the United States may suffer from sleep-related problems. “Sleep disorders can affect anyone at any age, and left untreated, these conditions can have a significantly negative impact on your quality of life,” he said. “Fortunately for those who do suffer from sleep-related disorders, there are helpful treatment strategies available.” |
| |
| Lectures and lunch are provided free of charge, but reservations are required. All attendees will receive a reduced admission to tour the museum. To make a reservation, please call (251) 460-7770 or email kebarnes@usouthal.edu. |
