Mobile DowntownMobile, located in the southwest corner of the state of Alabama, celebrated her 300th year in 2002. Metropolitan Mobile has a population of over 536,301 and includes Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Baldwin County is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. The area has an average annual temperature of 67.4 degrees and an annual rainfall of 63.7 inches. Housing costs are below the national average.
Inc. Magazine (December 2000) ranked Mobile as one of the countries "Best Cities to Start and Grow a Business". Business Xpansion Journal (2000) listed Mobile as one of its final 50 "Places With Attitude". The determining factors in this designation were Mobile's ability to weather business slumps, a multi-racial workforce and a thriving economic industrial mix. In 1997, the Economic Outlook Center at Arizona State University in Tempe placed Mobile's job growth at 29th in the nation. Money Magazine (2000) included Mobile in its "300 Best Places to Live" annual survey. Golf Digest (1998) listed Mobile as the No. 5 spot in it's "Best Golf Destinations" for medium sized cities.
Local annual festivals include Shrimp, Pecan, Jazz & Watermelon Festivals. Other annual events include Bayfest, First Night Jamboree, Mardi Gras and the America's Junior Miss Pageant. Activities for the sports lover include the Bay Bears (AA baseball), the Mobile Revelers (an NBA affiliate), the GMAC & Senior Bowls, and over 20 public & private golf courses, including Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail and Magnolia Groves Crossing Course were the LPGA Tournament of Champions is held. The Museum of Art,  the Saenger Theater, the Mobile Symphony, the Mobile Ballet, and the Mobile Opera are available for the arts connoisseur. Year round local attractions include Battleship Park (home to the USS ALABAMA), Bellingrath Gardens, Fort Blakely, Fort Conde, Fort Morgan, the beaches of the Gulf Coast and Dauphin Island Sea Lab Estuarium.  In addition, other nearby attractions range from "Casino Row" in Mississippi to "The Blue Angels" at Pensacola Naval Air Base in Florida. The attractions of New Orleans, LA (136 miles), Atlanta, GA (337 miles), and Jackson, MS (185 miles) are only a short drive away.
