What is BBL and how does it work?

The Profile BBL – Broadband Light – allows for the precise treatment of age and sun spots, and several other skin blemishes such as rosacea, redness and flushing.
It can also reduce or eliminate spider veins and other small veins on the face along with some birthmarks and hemangiomas.

The BBL can remove unwanted hair from face, legs, arms, underarms and the back.
There is little to no discomfort. After treatment it is normal to experience slight redness and inflammation in the treated area which will subside after a few hours.

Treatments vary from 3 to 5 times with intervals between treatments of 3 to 8 weeks.

BBL works by softly heating the upper layers of your skin which is then absorbed by the targeted area and stimulating skin cells to create new collagen. This helps to restore your skin to its natural beauty and eliminates most of the fine vessels that cause redness and undesired melanin which cause pigmented lesions.

All areas of the body can be treated, with the most common being the neck, face, back of the hands, chest and shoulders. Desired results can typically be achieved from 2 to 5 treatments with intervals between treatments at 2 to 4 weeks.

What to expect.

Since this is a non-invasive procedure there is virtually no downtime and most patients will be able to return to work, resume most activities and apply makeup immediately.

After treatment patients may experience some redness that will resolve after a few hours. Results vary depending on your condition, number of treatments, and the area treated.

There should be little to no discomfort, however this will vary from patient to patient and there is no need for topical anesthesia.

During the procedure your eyes will be covered with safety glasses, you may feel a brief warm sensation when the light is absorbed by targeted areas and the procedure takes anywhere from a few minutes up to half an hour, depending on the size of the area to be treated.

Pre-Treatment Care

For best results, patients are to avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and tanning creams for 2-3 week prior to treatment and throughout the course of the BBL treatment. Sunless tanning lotions must also be avoided for 2-3 weeks prior to treatment. However, if sun exposure is unavoidable, the number of treatment sessions may have to be increased.

The areas to be treated should be shaved 24 hour prior to treatment. This is to remove the overlying hair from the treatment site. Thick overlying hair (if not shaved) will absorb the BBL energy and superficial thermal injury can occur. The amount of energy absorbed by the hair follicle will be reduced and more treatment required.

Post Treatment Care

Quick, warm showers are recommended. Avoid prolonged hot baths.
Aerobic exercise, use of saunas and hot tubs should also be avoided for 24-48 hours.

If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and notify us.

Cold packs, aloe vera or any other cooling preparation may be used to ease temporary discomfort.

Prolonged sun exposure is to be avoided for 4 weeks before and after treatment. A total sum block, not a sunscreen, should be applied if it is impossible to comply.

If further treatment is needed a Commitment to Stay Out of the Sun is necessary. Sun exposure may cause certain complications (possibly blistering and /or hyper-pigmentation).

Makeup can be applied as long as the skin is not broken. Makeup can also serve to protect the skin from sun exposure.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact us immediately.
