Clinical Affiliates

Students enrolled in the Cardiorespiratory Care program at the University of South Alabama receive clinical experience at eleven healthcare facilities. The students benefit from rotating among these eleven hospitals because each hospital is run differently. The group of hospitals belonging to the University of South Alabama is teaching and research centers. The other clinical affiliates are categorized as either for-profit, non-profit, or hospice. Students earn valuable clinical experience from exposure to these diverse types of institutions. In addition to refining their skills, students learn how these different types of hospitals function.

The University Hospital is a 346-bed acute care facility which serves as the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. It is the major referral center for southern Alabama, southern Mississippi, and portions of northwest Florida, offering centers for Level I trauma, burns, cancer, cardiovascular disease, strokes, organ transplant and sickle cell disease. Its sophisticated technology combined with the desire, dedication, and determination of an acclaimed professional staff allows patients to receive the finest medical care available.

The University of South Alabama Children's and Women's Hospital is committed to being the foremost healthcare facility in our region for children and women. The facility is one of only five freestanding hospitals in the United States dedicated exclusively to the healthcare needs of children and women. With a strong emphasis on family-centered care, our staff provides expectant mothers with comfortable, home-like settings for delivery. Realizing that children have special physical and emotional needs, the hospital’s pediatric care is delivered in an environment designed to reduce the anxiety associated with hospitalization.

North Baldwin Infirmary, located in Bay Minette, is convenient for the growing communities of north Baldwin County. A 55-bed, not-for-profit acute care facility,North Baldwin Infirmary offers a wide range of healthcare services including therapy services, surgical services, a 24-hour emergency room, home health services, a wellness center, MRI, CT scan, and mammography. The hospital also features specialty services for intensive care, pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology patients.
Located in Fairhope, Thomas Hospital is a major community medical center with more than 200 physicians on staff. For over 40 years, Thomas Hospital has provided healthcare services to the people of Baldwin County. Services range from 24-hour emergency care, to women’s services, cancer treatment, a wellness and rehabilitation center, a nationally-recognized diabetes management program, and state-of-the-art diagnostics, open heart surgery, and vascular services.

A 252 bed, complete medical-surgical healthcare facility with all private rooms serving the greater Southwest Alabama region conveniently located at the junction of I-65 and Dauphin Street.
Since opening the area's first hospital in 1915, Sacred Heart Health System has grown into the regional leader for providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare to children and adults in Northwest Florida. The hub of the Health System is a 449-bed acute care facility located in Pensacola, Florida, which includes Sacred Heart Hospital, Sacred Heart Children's Hospital and Sacred Heart Women's Hospital. In 2003 our growth in Northwest Florida continued with the opening of a new 50-bed hospital in Walton County, east of Destin, to be called Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast.
