The Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) hosted the third annual Causeway Pitch Competition at Fort Conde. The Causeway Pitch Competition is an elevator pitch competition with a twist. Instead of giving an elevator pitch on an elevator or in a stuffy office, students persuaded Mobile's best business minds while riding the Causeway in a Gulf Coast Duck Boat.

Fourteen student teams turned in posters describing their business idea. The posters were then displayed for a week in the Mitchell College of Business. South Alabama professors and some of Mobile’s best business minds came in and judged all fourteen posters. All fourteen student teams were selected to give their elevator pitch on a Gulf Coast Duck Boat. The competitors were a diverse mix, including students from school of Arts & Sciences, the Honors College and the Mitchell College of Business. The winners were:

Bailey Duos, 1st Place, Port City Pups

Kaitlin Kelly, 2nd Place, Online retail store for short women

Brianna Ladnier, 3rd Place, Hold N Fold

Based on the feedback from the participants and judges, the event was a tremendous success. We are taking their suggestions and are planning to make next year’s Causeway Pitch Competition bigger and better!
