2019 Coastal Pitch Competition

The Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) hosted its annual Coastal Pitch Competition at the University of South Alabama. The Coastal Pitch Competition is an elevator pitch competition that allows students the opportunity to win seed money and in-kind services to help them start their business.

Eleven students submitted a video describing their company idea. The videos were then critiqued by judges, and students were given feedback that would help them advance their pitches to the first live round. Ten students pitched in front of a panel of judges in round one, receiving feedback to improve their presentation for the finals.

The contestants were a diverse mix, including students from the school of engineering, sociology and the Mitchell College of Business. The winners were:

Justin Wilkerson, 1st Place, Mobile DroneWorks, $1050.00

Patricia West, 2nd Place, Tech Teachers, $700.00

Nikolas Hughey, 3rd Place, Dream Chasers, $350.00

Rachel Aune, 4th Place, Tito’s Treats, $250

Based on the feedback from the participants and judges, the event was a tremendous success! We are taking their suggestions and are planning to make next year’s Coastal Pitch Competition bigger and better!
