Enhancing the Student Experience

It takes more than a college degree to have a successful career and the Mitchell College of Business is dedicated to giving students the tools you need to reach your career goals. We partner with businesses in our one-of-a-kind PREP program to assist students in exploring and selecting careers, and preparing you for the workforce.

Job shadowing allows students to observe business professionals in a variety of industries to determine personal interest and fit. Mentoring provides occasions to gain insight and to seek career advice from experienced professionals.

Engaging the Community

PREP activities allow numerous opportunities for students to network with business professionals in the classroom, workshops, meetings of professional organizations, and on-the-job. Businesses in the region participate in PREP by speaking in our classes and lecture series, and conducting professional development workshops. Businesses also participate in 2nd Story Business, Lunch and Learn events, career fairs and Take 5 conversations. Businesses host field trips, company tours, offer job shadowing and internship opportunities. We have a spot for your company's jobs and internship opportunities on our digital employment kiosks, the Experience Station. We have many ways for you, as a professional to be involved or for your company to participate and engage. We will tailor your partnership to meet your business needs. Be involved as much as you'd like to be.

Prepped for Your Future

PREP includes three (3) career portfolio courses and an internship or experiential learning component that are required for business majors.  The courses are designed to expose students to workplace norms and to develop professional attitudes and behaviors.  These courses teach a broad variety of career preparedness topics, including:

Job Search Skills:

  • Career Planning
  • Personal Branding
  • Networking & Relationship Building
  • Resume Preparation
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Informational Interviewing

Workforce Readiness Skills

  • Business Communication
  • Time Management
  • Office Conduct & Etiquette
  • Dining Etiquette
  • Conducting Business Meetings
  • Cultural Awareness

During the PREP courses, students prepare career plans and develop career portfolios for use throughout their careers. In addition, PREP offers professional development workshops and seminars throughout the year.  The PREP program culminates in business students completing an internship or a cache of work experiences towards the fulfillment of the internship and graduation requirement.

Our goal is to ensure every graduate is PREPPED for success!
