Birthday Parties/Facility Rental

Celebrate your birthday or special event with Campus Recreation. Our Outdoor Pool, Rock Wall, and Indoor Soccer Court are all available to be rented for parties. See our reservation application form where you can find times of availability and fees. For rockwall rental, contact rock wall staff directly before filling out facility reservation form. To check for availability and to make a reservation for your event please come to the main office in the Student Recreation Center. A $ 25 non-refundable deposit and completed reservation application form are due when you make your reservation. The full balance is due 3 days before your scheduled event.

▼   Outdoor Pool Parties

Celebrate your birthday party or special event with us.  The outdoor pool is available for rental April 1st through October 30th (weather permitting). 

The Outdoor “Leisure” pool is a great place to host your upcoming event.  We have something for everyone to enjoy.  The pool deck has tables and chairs, lounge chairs, umbrellas, hammocks, and swings your guests can use to relax.   The pool itself has a vortex, volleyball and basketball courts, a deep water well, a shallow water sunbathing area, and benches for participants to sit on and stay cool during their visit.   The outdoor pool deck also features a hot tub for guests 14 and over.   We provide tables for your food and gifts, canopies, and lifeguards for your event. 

Reservation Requirements:
  • You must be a member of the Student Recreation Center or current USA student to reserve the outdoor pool. 
  •  The outdoor pool is available for rental April 1st through October 30th (weather permitting).
  •  The outdoor pool can be reserved for Spring/Summer season each year beginning March 1st at 10:00 AM. 
  •  All reservations must be made online.
  •  A $25 deposit is required to reserve the pool, once your registration has been approved.  This deposit is non-refundable but can be transferred to another date.
Available Days and Times for Reservations:
  •  Saturdays, 10:00 AM-12 noon
  •  Saturday, 8:00 PM-10:00 PM (USA student special events or Adult Parties only)

*The indoor pool is not available for rental.  We do not rent our pool during hours we are open to our members.  Pool rental is not available on Sundays.

▼   Rock wall Reservations

The Rock Wall is available for rent during non-scheduled hours; scheduled hours are Monday – Friday 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and Saturdays -Sundays, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. No rentals are allowed when the Student Recreation Center is closed for University holidays. To rent the wall it is $90/hour.

Birthday parties: Assuming participants are under the age of 17, birthday parties may only be held on weekends. While there is no limit to the group size of a birthday party, only 20 participants may be in the Rock Wall area at a given time.

Participants may use the indoor soccer court, table tennis tables, and patio area if those areas/tables are not being used by others (which "usually"' is the case on Saturday and Sunday mornings and early afternoons). Food may ONLY be served outside in the patio area and/or upstairs in the Smoothie area. At least ONE parent must attend the party for every 1-10 participants; participants MUST be at least 6 years of age.

Special Events: If all participants are 17 or older, a special event may be held on BOTH weekends and weekdays. Up to 30 participants will be allowed in the Rock Wall area at a given time.

Reservation process:

  1. The Individual making the reservation MUST be either a USA student 19 years of age or older or 1USA faculty/staff/alumni member. The person making the reservation need NOT attend the function but MUST designate on the Application someone 19 years of age or older who will be in attendance and serve as liaison with the Rock Wall staff. Participants need not be Student Recreation Center member but must be at least 6 years of age. If the person making the reservation is not affiliated with USA, permission to reserve the Rock Wall must be obtained from the Director of campus Recreation.
  2. Download the Reservation Application from the Campus Recreation/Outdoor Adventures web page or pick one up from a Rock Wall staff person. You must contact rock wall staff (rockwall@southalabama.edu) before submitting your Application to discuss your event. Applications must be turned in one week prior to your event. After one week there is no guarantee our staff can work the event.
  3. Return the completed form with a $25 deposit check to either the Front desk of the Student Recreation Center or preferably to the Rock Wall staff. The deposit is non-refundable within 3 days of the requested reservation. The remainder of the fee is due at the Start of the reservation time (checks only, payable to “U.S.A.”)
  4. You should receive verbal confirmation from the Rock Wall staff of your reservation request within 48 hours of submitting your Application (and usually immediately when the form is submitted to the Rock Wall staff). Please do NOT schedule your event until you have received either written or verbal confirmation.


  1. The cost to reserve the wall is $90 per hour. Wall must be reserved for at minimum two hours.
  2. Groups consisting entirely of South Alabama students will only be charged $10 per hour per 1-10 students.
  3. University Departments may request an inter-departmental transfer in lieu of checks; please make request in advance with a member of the Rock Wall staff.


  1. All climbers must have a waiver on file with the Rock Wall staff. If you have previously filled out a standard waiver within the past year, you will not need to fill out a special events waiver.
  2. If you are a first time climber nineteen or older and are NOT a member of the Student Recreation Center, you may sign a special events waiver at the start of the event.
  3. If there are climbers in the event under the age of 19, the person making the reservation must download or pick up the needed waivers to be completed in advance IF a parent or legal guardian is not going to be attending the climbing event. These completed waivers –which must be signed by a legal guardian – must be handed in at the start of the event.
  4. Special event waivers are only good for the specified event.

The soccer courts are available Saturday or Sunday, 2 hours before the facility opens.  You must be a member of the Student Recreation Center to reserve our facility for a special event. Membership cards must be presented at time of reservation.

▼   SGA Sports Complex

The SGA Pavilion is an impressive outdoor meeting place for USA organizations and groups. This spacious facility comfortably seats up to 120 at the large picnic tables. Enjoy some sand volleyball on two regulation sand volleyball courts, or play horseshoes and tetherball while your burgers sizzle on one of two brick grills. Remember, if your event is in need of restrooms, you can reserve the Intramural Field house as well where we provide restroom access and an attendant on stand-by for any questions you may have. If your event is held during our office hours, Monday through Friday 1pm to 6pm, this will be provided at no cost to you. If your event is held at any other time, this service can be provided for $10 dollars per hour.
