Grace Teel

  • Where are you from? Mobile, Alabama
  • What is your major? Foreign Language with a Concentration in Spanish
  • What languages do you speak? I speak English, but I'm also learning Spanish and Russian.
  • Where have you traveled in the U.S. and abroad? In the US, I have lived in Colorado, Maryland, and Alabama. I've visited pretty much every state in the Southeast. I have also studied abroad in the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, and, most recently, Spain.
  • What do you like to do when you are not studying? When I'm not studying, I like to watch TV (my favorite show is Psych), cook, and just spend time with my friends and family.
  • Why did you want to be a peer mentor? I wanted to become more culturally competent and learn about other cultures. I also wanted to help people make the transition to university life and life in the United States a little easier.

 

 

 

Katie Joiner

  • Where are you from? Ashville, Alabama
  • What is your major? Hospitality and Tourism Management
  • What languages do you speak? I speak English fluently and I am in the process of learning Spanish.
  • Where have you traveled in the U.S. and abroad? In the United States,I have been to Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Illinois, Georgia, and Florida. Internationally, I have only visited the Bahamas.
  • What do you like to do when you're not studying? When I'm free from studying, I like to watch Netflix, hangout with friends, play ukulele/sing, and go to music festivals.
  • Why did you want to be a peer mentor? Becoming a peer mentor meant learning about people’s cultures, helping people, and planning events, which are things I enjoy. I do get to earn class credit, but I get the opportunity to grow as a student and as a person. I am very excited to partake on this journey of educating while learning at the same time.

 

 

 Elizabeth Bingheim

  • Where are you from? Belleville, Illinois
  • What is your major? Psychology
  • What languages do you speak? My first language is English and I can speak Spanish. 
  • Where have you traveled in the U.S. and abroad?  I have taken a Route 66 trip all the way to California and back. Unfortunately that’s the farthest I’ve gone but I’d love to go somewhere in Central/South America!
  • What do you like to do when you're not studying? When I’m away from my studies, I’m watching St. Louis Blues hockey, painting, or watching extreme amounts of Netflix or Hulu.
  • Why did you want to be a peer mentor? I wanted to be a peer mentor because I love learning about other cultures and meeting new people. It is the perfect opportunity to help others while also improving my own perspective on the world.
 

Michelle Noerr

  • Where are you from? Mobile, AL
  • What is your major? Communications with a Concentration of Film & Linguistics
  • What languages do you speak? I can speak four languages : English, Japanese, Spanish, and a little Tagalog.
  • Where have you traveled in the U.S. and abroad? Within the U.S. ,I’ve been to Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, & Washington. I have traveled once abroad to Ireland.
  • What do you like to do when you're not studying? I like to make videos, hangout with friends, swim & watch Netflix when I'm not studying.
  • Why did you want to be a peer mentor? I want to be a peer mentor because I think this opportunity will be great experience for working with international students and gaining a deeper perspective on different cultures.
