Summer Construction Projects on the USA Campus
With the end of spring semester at the University of South Alabama, campus construction projects are ramping up and will continue throughout the summer and, in some cases, beyond. Here is a summary of the activities:
Hancock Whitney Stadium
Elements of the stadium including the operations building, press tower, outbuildings, turf installation, seating and lighting, and utilities are being developed. This work will continue into 2020.
Parking lots adjacent to the stadium will be constructed this fall. Also, Cleverdon Parkway will be widened to three lanes and realigned with the stadium’s south entrance. This two-phase project will focus this summer on the portion from the stadium to Tonsmeire Drive and next summer from Tonsmeire Drive to Old Shell Road.
MacQueen Alumni Center
This 14,434 square foot building along USA South Drive should be substantially completed by November.
Simulation Lab Building
Scheduled for substantial completion by December, the Simulation Lab Building will encompass 39,000 square feet on three floors, along with a storm shelter.
Beta and Gamma Residence Halls Re-roofing
Roof replacements on Betas 1-5 and Gammas 5-9 should be completed by August.
USA North Drive Traffic Circle
This traffic circle will be installed at the intersection of USA North Drive and Health Services Drive. It is scheduled for completion in August.
Gamma Parking Lot Entrance and Humanities Parking Lot Modifications
The Gamma parking lot will add a new entrance in the lot’s northwest corner, to be completed by August. The lot’s northeast entrance on USA South Drive will be closed to relieve congestion near the Humanities lot, which will get a new entrance further east from the entrance near the archaeology museum. That entrance will be closed.
Western Access Road
A new, two-lane roadway is being built from Old Shell Road at Foreman Road into the USA campus. This will enhance access to and from the USA intramural fields and Hancock Whitney Stadium, and is scheduled for completion by February 2020.
University Commons Clinic, Phase 1
This 16,000 square foot renovation for clinical and office space is scheduled for completion in July.
As always, scheduled work is subject to change, especially if weather conditions require adjustments to various projects.
