The mission of Academic Advising Programs at the University of South Alabama is to provide an integrated array of effective academic advising services as well as resources and planning tools for students. This integrated program will assist undergraduate students to make a successful transition to, and establish their place in, university life; to take responsibility for learning how to set academic, career, and personal goals, and the strategies for achieving them; and to graduate in a timely manner, successfully meeting all requirements. Integral to our mission is providing our staff with the training needed to adapt readily to the changing environment of our university workplace and the advising profession.
Advising and Transfer Services
At the University of South Alabama academic advising is about you. While enrolled at South, you and your advisor will work together to develop your academic plan. To ensure that your personal and academic needs are met, be sure to share with your advisor your values, goals and career objectives. Your advisor is also knowledgeable about many aspects of university life and can provide you information and advice on utilizing the opportunities available on campus.
Center for Academic Excellence is South's primary academic support resource center. Located in the back of the Academic Services Building, Center for Academic Excellence is staffed with JagPALs, or Peer Academic Leaders. JagPALs are highly motivated, successful undergraduates eager to support student success through tutoring and mentoring through Drop-in Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, and First Year Experience Mentors.
The University of South Alabama Marx Library's mission is to support the present and anticipated teaching, research and service goals of the University of South Alabama, the mission of the University Libraries is to select, acquire, organize, promote and provide timely and efficient access to information resources, regardless of format or location. This includes instruction and critical evaluation of those resources. The public is also welcome to use the library facilities and most library resources. The libraries and website provide access to a rich collection of books, journals, electronic resources, media and unique special collections. The libraries also have helpful, knowledgeable staff who are dedicated to helping users find, evaluate and interpret information. You can even live chat with a librarian with their Ask A Librarian program. You are encouraged to use this website often and to visit the libraries in person.
The Computer Services Center (CSC) supports a wide range of computing and network services throughout USA’s campuses and Health System. Services include the student information and financial systems, wired and wireless networks, internet access and email, telephone systems, the directory and authentication systems, network storage systems, and numerous other services.
The USA Writing Center is an instructional facility with the primary goal of improving student writing skills. The Writing Center's tutoring staff includes both graduate and undergraduate students who are excited to help clients increase their confidence and success in the craft of writing.
