The National Players perform Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Mobile's Saenger Theatre Jan. 24

The National Players, America's longest-running classical touring company, will perform William Shakespeare's comic classic, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on Jan. 24 at Mobile's Saenger Theater. The 8 p.m. show is free to all area high school and college students and teachers.

The event is part of the Second Annual Mobile Shakespeare Festival, sponsored by University of South Alabama's Jaguar Productions and its English Department. No reservations are necessary. Tickets will be available beginning at 7 p.m. that evening on a first-come, first-served basis. General admission is $15.

"Shakespeare did not write to be read, he wrote to be performed," said Dr. Adam Cohen, USA assistant professor and Mobile Shakespeare Festival organizer. "The magic of theater exists at the intersection between a talented group of players and an enthusiastic and attentive audience."
