USA Student Receives Emory Jackson Scholarship
The Birmingham Association of Black Journalists recently awarded the Emory Jackson Scholarship to University of South Alabama broadcast journalism junior Brandan Stuckey of Birmingham, Ala.
The $500 scholarship is named for Emory Jackson, editor of the Birmingham World, the first black-owned newspaper in Birmingham that later became the Birmingham Times. Stuckey is one of only five students in Alabama and the only USA student to receive a BABJ scholarship. He is actively involved in Jaguar Productions, JAG-TV, and is program director for the African-American Student Association. He also participated in a TV-weather seminar class with WKRG News chief meteorologist Alan Sealls.
BABJ is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for professional development and offers scholarships and guidance to students considering news media careers. It is an affiliate of the National Association of Black Journalists. |
