The University of South Alabama Paideia Endowment in Hellenic Studies and the Mobile chapter of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association are sponsoring a dramatic event titled, "Plato's Apology of Socrates." The performance is on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m.
This is a one-man theatrical show performed by actor Yannis Simonides and directed by Loukas N. Skipitaris. The performance is a re-enactment of Socrates' defense in the Athenian court and his rebuttals to a guilty verdict and a death sentence.
Simonides is an actor, Emmy award-winning producer, former chairman of the New York University drama department, former director of Hellenic Public Radio and director of the Greek Theater of New and of Mythic Media International.
Proceeds from the performance will benefit the University's Hellenic Studies Endowment, which will support the new classical studies minor, the classical concentration in philosophy and instruction in the classical Greek language.
