Student Government Association Officers

Mobile, Ala.The University of South Alabama has announced the results of the new Student Government Association officer elections for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Jennifer Edwards, 21, of Heflin, Ala., will serve as president of the SGA. She is a junior marketing major, with a real estate concentration in the Mitchell College of Business. Edwards has served as an SGA senator and vice president. She is the daughter of Richard and Kelley Edwards.

Martin Statkewicz, 21, of Mobile will serve as vice president. He is a junior business and finance major in the Mitchell College of Business. He is a member of the Southerners, Southbound, Interfraternity Council, Sigma Chi and Order of Omega. He is the son of Steve and Michele Statkewicz.

Matt Hayes, 21, native of Florence, Ala., was elected as treasurer. He is a junior finance major in the Mitchell College of Business. He is president of the Financial Management Association and treasurer of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He’s the son of Myra Hayes.

The purpose of the SGA is to protect and advance student interests as well as to promote the welfare of the student body. The organization operates as a constitutional democracy and is comprised of executive judicial and legislative branches.

USA has awarded 60,000 degrees and its more than 2,000 graduates per year take their place in a wide range of professions, including education, health care, engineering, the sciences, business and commerce, government and public service, the arts and humanities, and many others.
