USA Observes Constitution Day Sept. 17 with Lecture on Taxation and the Constitution

The University of South Alabama Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice, and the Student Government Association will observe Constitution Day on Monday, Sept. 17 by hosting lecture and discussion about taxation and the Constitution.

University of Alabama School of Law Professor Susan Pace Hamill will present a lecture titled “Of Constitutions and Taxes” at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 17 in the USA Main Library Auditorium. She will provide a comparison of taxation issues under the U.S. and Alabama Constitutions.

Hamill has been a professor of law since 1994, specializing in the areas of tax law, business organizations and ethics. Before joining the law faculty, Hamill practiced tax law with New York City law firms and served as a government attorney for the Chief Counselor’s Office of the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C.

In 2004, Congress approved legislation mandating that all educational institutions that receive federal funding implement Constitution Day programs on Sept. 17 of each year. Constitution Day was created to teach primary, secondary and post-secondary students more about the U.S. Constitution.
