The Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy at the University of South Alabama held a grand opening ribbon-cutting and open house at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 on the second floor of the Health Services Building on USA’s main campus.

USA President Gordon Moulton, AU Provost Dr. John Heilman, AU Pharmacy Dean Lee Evans, and Dr. Pat Covey, USA senior vice president for academic affairs, addressed the standing-room only crowd at the event.  Matt Jenkins, president of the AU Pharmacy Student Council, also spoke to the audience about his experiences.

Evans said, “I want to express my thanks to a wonderful staff. They have done an incredible job of getting the facility prepared.”

Heilman welcomed the inaugural class of students to the Mobile campus.

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be here,” he said. “We are today at the initiation and inauguration of a cutting-edge pharmacy program that I think we can all be proud of.”

Moulton said he was pleased that the program had been started so quickly.

“We have been responsive to the citizens of this state and  recognized the great need for pharmacists.”

After the ribbon-cutting, the crowd participated in a live demonstration of the innovative, high-tech approaches that are making this program possible. A reception followed for students and guests.
