The University of South Alabama College of Engineering Alumni Society recently endowed a scholarship for a junior or senior engineering major. The Society raised the scholarship funds at its second annual alumni and student golf tournament, and formally signed the endowment agreements at the “Shrimp on the Bay” event in early May at the Brookley campus. The event congratulates new engineering graduates and welcomes them into the Engineering Alumni Society.
The Society’s gift of $5,000 will be matched by the University to create a $10,000 endowment. The resulting $500 scholarship can be used for tuition, fees or books.
The College of Engineering Alumni Society is the first such group to endow a scholarship, and the alumni group is committed to using proceeds from next year’s golf tournament and other fund-raising events to increase the scholarship endowment in the future.
The group presented the gift to Dr. John Steadman, dean of the College of Engineering, at its recent “Shrimp on the Bay” event. |
