The University of South Alabama’s Baldwin County campus announces a presentation
on “The Importance of Understanding Islam and the Muslim World” as part of its Distinguished
Lecture Series. This free lecture is scheduled for Sunday, October 19 at 3:00 p.m. in USA’s
Baldwin County Campus Performance Center at the corner of St. James and Summit Streets in
downtown Fairhope.
Dr. Mir Zohair Husain, Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of
South Alabama, will focus on the importance of understanding Islam and the Muslim world. He
will also give a brief overview of his two recent books, Global Islamic Politics, 2nd edition, and
Global Studies: Islam and the Muslim World. The books will be available for purchase, along
with a book signing immediately following the lecture.
Dr. Husain spent the first eighteen years of his life in Karachi, Pakistan. He moved to
the United States in 1972 to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Political Science
and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, he completed his
doctorate in International Relations and set his goal on becoming a professor in the United
States. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Husain joined USA’s Department of Political Science in
1986.
