USA Professor Named President of Southeast Region of the American Accounting Association

Dr. Russ Hardin

University of South Alabama Mitchell College of Business Accounting Chair Dr. Russ Hardin has been selected as the incoming president of the southeast region of the American Accounting Association.

The organization will host its meeting in Mobile in spring 2010.

The American Accounting Association promotes worldwide excellence in accounting education, research and practice. Founded in 1916 as the American Association of University Instructors in Accounting, its present name was adopted in 1936. The Association is a voluntary organization of persons interested in accounting education and research.

The Southeast region includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The objectives of the Southeast Region are to: strive to facilitate a broad-based member participation in the activities and programs of the AAA; endeavor to sponsor broad-based research and educational programs for the benefit of its members; offer continuing education programs coordinated with the AAA's Director of Education; tailor each specific meeting to the specific needs and desires of the regional members; strive to draw on the talents of a broad spectrum of members in the region; and publish the proceedings of each meeting.

Hardin, a professor of accounting at USA, holds his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business from Appalachian State University and a Ph.D. degree in accounting with a concentration in tax from the University of Mississippi. A certified public accountant, he teaches tax courses and financial accounting. He has published several articles and books in the accounting, tax and international business fields.
