The University of South Alabama has been selected to host the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp(EMBHSSC), June 13-25 on the USA main campus. The program, held at thirty campuses across the country, is the largest of its kind in the nation and offers a two-week, free-of-charge experience. Students typically come from urban districts around the country and are recommended by their teachers based on leadership skills and science and mathematics aptitude. Forty-eight students will be selected from the pool of applicants to attend the camp at USA.
Who may apply: Mobile and Baldwin County students who will be enrolled in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade for the 2010-2011 school year may apply. This program has been designed to give underserved and underrepresented students an opportunity for interactive experiences in the subject areas of natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, and technology.

About the Camp: The EMBHSSC, EXX-Treme Engineering, will start on Sunday afternoon, June 13 and conclude on Friday afternoon, June 25. This camp is a two-week, free, residential program with students returning to their homes for the weekend that falls during the camp. Students must participate in all camp activities. Before applying for the camp, please be sure that your child’s schedule is free for the full two weeks. Campers will not be excused for any purpose, barring an unforeseen emergency. Students who are selected will be notified no later than May 15. Each day, campers will attend highly-interactive classes in the natural sciences, engineering, mathematics and technology, taught by a teaching team of secondary classroom teachers and USA faculty. Activities include classroom study, experiments, individual, team and group projects, weekly field excursions and guest speakers.
