HealthSouth co-founder and former Chief Financial Officer Aaron Beam recently spoke to Mitchell MBA students in the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell College of Business. Beam discussed HealthSouth’s rapid growth after its founding by himself and Richard Scrushy and the company’s eventual slowdown. Beam told students that the slowdown in growth brought about demands by Scrushy for Beam and other financial officers to disguise the true nature of the company’s financial performance. Beam also discussed his prosecution for bank fraud perpetrated while HealthSouth CFO and his three month imprisonment in a Federal Prison Camp. He encouraged Mitchell MBA students to commit themselves to high standards of ethical behavior. He is the author of the book, "HealthSouth: The Wagon to Disaster."
